I guess this is a bit of a magpie monday and tutorial post really ... I bought this vintage lace sofa head rest cloth thing for a couple of quid cos I love lace ... but not really just cos I love lace, I did have a project in mind ... a pretty lampshade for our bedroom :)
its a lovely natural colour linen with a wide lace bottom ...
I bought a lampshade kit off eBay which arrived yesterday morning :)
... so that was my evening last night ... making the most beautiful lampshade there ever was!!
The kit includes a sheet of PVC that is sticky on the back, I measured out my fabric and marked the size of the PVC sheet ... (I should point out that I ironed the linen first as being linen it was very creased!)
... and stuck it on ...
I trimmed the PVC to fit around the scallops of the lace
using a knife I trimmed off the access linen
the PVC already has a fold that can be snapped and peeled off which makes exactly the right size edge that is needed later.
The kit also includes some double sided tape that you wrap around the wire frames. Usually you wrap it around both the top and the bottom, but as I am doing things differently and making it up as I go, I just used the top ring.
I trimmed down the side of the fabric too and added a strip of double sided tape
I peeled off the cover for the double sided tape and lined it up with the edge of the PVC and rolled it round ... the double sided tape stuck really well
usually you roll both rings at the top and bottom of the shade at the same time making a nice secure tube ... you then seal the side with the double sided tape. This was a bit more awkward for me as I was just using the one ring.
The kit provides you with a little tool that you can use to push the edging in around and under the rings.
I placed the 2nd ring in the bottom ...
and sewed it in place at every arch of the wavy lace edge to add strength to the bottom of the shade
I then carefully sewed the lace together ... this is what took the time, but amazingly the pattern all matched up and so a seam is not obvious ... its amazing how well it fits!
... and here it is ... thank you mum for the use of you arm!!
and here ... against a dark background ... I can't wait to put it up and see the light shine through the lace :)
If you fancy having a go at making a shade, I would definitely recommend having a go with one of these kits :)

I took a days holiday today ... it was a thrilling day! truly one of the best! ... ok so it wasn't thrilling ... but it was a lovely chilled out day and just what I needed ... the day started off with some root touch up ... my mum usually dyes my hair ... even when I didn't live near her I would have to go visit her regularly to keep me looking young ;) well she is away at the moment, and I needed a touch up, so I thought I would try this ... Clairol Root Touch Up and I have to say it was very easy to use, made very little mess ...
... and look! it seems to have worked!! ... If you need a touch up and you want something easy, I would recommend having a go with this :)
while I was doing my hair I did wonder where dilly-dog had got to as when I am at home she is usually with me ... I soon found her on the comfiest seat she could find in the sunshine ... she was in the sunroom and she was one happy wooflet!
remember my wordless wednesday post from last week? ...
my bedroom curtain fabric arrived and I was very excited! well I pinned it all the other day ...
... and today I spent many happy hours sewing them up ..
... I machined the tops and then sat in a comfy chair and caught up with Trial and Retribution while hand-sewing the sides (so the stitching wouldn't show) the best way to spend an afternoon!
Dilly-dog enjoyed her walk too, and although its still cold, it felt like Spring is really coming :)
hope you have all had a lovely day today too :)

Years ago my parents bought me my lovely chunky pine chest of draws for my clothes, in recent years I have also been using as a dressing table as well ... I have a pretty painted shelf unit on it with photos, pretty jars and a pile of books
The other week I was in the antique market in town and spied this beautiful pine dressing table mirror top ... I had to wait till I was paid on Saturday, and happily it was still there, so I snapped it up :) ... I should probably confess here that it wasn't me ... I was working all day so my parents who happened to be in town that day got sent out with my bank card and bless them, carried it all the way home!! I know I am a very lucky girl!
and guess what ... without me even measuring it ... it fit perfectly!! I gave it a big clean and replaced all my trinkets ... well most of them, and I am so pleased with it ... its PERFECT :)
Yesterday Steve and I went to Ross-on-Wye and came across a carboot ... its been a good few months since I have been to a carboot, and was very pleased to find a box of lace bobbins ...
they need a bit of a sort, but any good box of lace bobbins always does :)
